Pouring used cooking oil into the drains can interfere with the sewerage system creating ‘fatbergs’. Anglian Water is cleaning the sewers in Southend-on-Sea and working in partnership with Halo Oil to keep them clean.

In one project, during Christmas 2020, Anglian Water cleaned 7km of sewers at the seafront in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and removed 8 tonnes of grease and fat. Commonly referred to as ‘fatbergs’, these huge deposits not only prevent the sewers from running efficiently, but they can also lead to drains overflowing and creating a health hazard.

We are working in partnership with Anglian Water and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to help businesses dispose of cooking oil legally and responsibly.

Stay compliant

It is illegal to allow substances to interfere with the sewerage system. Once the sewers have been cleaned, however, it is much easier for Anglian Water to track where new sources of used oil are coming from.

Research from the same project showed that 40% of commercial properties were not disposing of their used cooking oil correctly.

Halo Oil is registered and regulated by the Environment Agency and our Waste Transfer Notes show you dispose of your oil legally.

Get cash for your oil

Not only do we provide documented Waste Transfer Notes, but we also pay cash at market-leading rates for the used oil. Our loyalty scheme gives double cash on every fifth collection.

We can also deliver high-quality oil ready to go in our unique stackable, eco-friendly containers.

Clean, green energy

Once used, we collect and process the waste oil sustainably. The oil is then used by Living Fuels to create environmentally friendly, sustainable bioliquid that is used to generate carbon-neutral electricity for UK homes and businesses. Our closed-loop process ensures you receive a premium product and efficient service with minimum waste.
